With shooting season about the begin, after months of on/off lockdown and intermittent periods of photographing families and then postponing sessions, I wanted to do a dedicated post all about my family photography style. Booking a family photography session is an investment, it’s not cheap and it does require doing your research. It is important to hire a photographer that will deliver the images that you want. I thoroughly encourage you to spend time looking at various family photographers and their work. Read their blogs and pour through their portfolio. Reach out and chat to see if you click. Because this work we do as family photographers is fleeting and fast but immensely important and sentimental. So finding the right fit is vital, let’s get it right for you.
Which brings me to the title of this post: Not your typical family portrait. My shooting style and posing is not typical and it’s not for everyone (and that is fine!) I want to capture the in-between, the moments, the tenderness and the connection. That’s what you can expect from a shoot with me. I want authenticity from your family, whether that be big energy and flying kids, tender moments and comfort being close. From portraits of laughter, to the shy ones that take a little while to warm up, I got you. If capturing portraits – albeit maybe unconventional ones – of your children and their authentic personalities is what you desperately want. then I know we will be a good fit.
When you look at these prints on your walls as time goes by all I want is for you to relish those giggles and cuddles, the little hands and curls of hair. As a photographer I don’t do ‘say cheese’ but instead I do bear hugs, and secret whispers, jumping and twirling and dancing.
