Beautiful, crazy and colourful Morocco!

I have a list of 30 things I want to achieve before I reach 30 (that date is coming at me pretty quickly!) and one on the list was to visit Morocco. I don’t know why I have always been so drawn to the country – I think it has to do with the fact I love markets, bazaars, temples and mosques. I adore the Islamic architecture and the thought of getting lost in the busy, bustling souks did not make me fearful – it made me excited!

I took a trip of just under 2 week where I saw a great variety and some of the most interesting parts of this country.

After spending a few months in India – the majority of it travelling solo – I was not daunted by Morocco in any way. And I have returned  home feeling pretty comfortable with my trip. But I won’t lie. There was some pretty tough and stressful moments! The majority due to lack of sleep (I did not plan the timings as well as I should have) and a good chunk of it due to Marrakesh being, well, Marrakesh!

My route went as follows: London – Marrakesh – Essaouira -Atlas Mountains – Sahara Desert – Chefchaouen – Rabat – Casablanca – London

If I were to re-do this trip two major changes I would make.

Numbers one: I would fly into Essaouira then go to Marrakesh (if you plan on heading to the Atlas Mountains/Sahara this makes so much more sense).

Number two: I would never, ever, ever again attempt to go from the Sahara Desert to Chefchaouen in ONE DAY. It took 18 hours. The actual worst travelling experience I have yet had! But if I had more time (and followed my original plan) I would stop at Fez before going to the blue city.

Highlights are without a doubt the incredible blue city of Chefchaouen (Sorry Jodhpur you have serious competition!), the impressive Sahara Desert and the seaside town of Essaouira. So much love for these lovely, enchanting and beautiful places!

All these photographs were taken on my lovely travel camera, the Nikon f100, and shot on Kodak Portra. All scanned & developed by Carmencita Film Lab.
